Baseball-Varsity Coaches

Ben Thompson 
Head Coach

     This will be Coach Thompson's 1st year as the head baseball coach at Dothan High School. He is coming to the Tigers from a successful head coaching tenure at Slocomb High School (2013-2015). At Slocomb, his record was 64-41, including 3 area championships and back to back quarterfinals appearances. Before coming to Slocomb, he was an assistant coach at Enterprise High School (1998-2012), including 6 years as the varsity pitching coach (2003-2007 & 2012). During his time as the pitching coach, Coach Thompson helped the Wildcats to 122 wins, 2 quarterfinals appearances and has coached 10 pitchers that have signed college scholarships. Coach Thompson began his career as an assistant coach at Daleville High School (1996-1998).

     Coach Thompson is a graduate of Enterprise High School, where he played baseball. He continued to play at ESCC (1990-1992), under Tim Hulsey, and Samford University (1992-1994), under Tommy Walker. He has 4 children: Katie (18), Olivia (16), Ethan (14), and Josie (6), and is married to Nikki Sawyer Thompson and has two step children: Sawyer (19) and Sage (17) Singletary.

  Hunter Smothers 
Assistant Coach

This will be Coach Smothers second year at Dothan High School, where he will be teaching History and is an assistant baseball coach. Coach Smothers is originally from Eldridge, AL where he attended Carbon Hill High School. After high school he attended Bevill State Community College in Fayette, AL where he was a pitcher for the baseball team, and then transfered to Athens State University where he received a bachelors degree in history education. Coach Smothers spent the 2014 season as the head baseball coach at Carbon Hill High School in Carbon Hill, AL. In his spare time he enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife, Hannah.



  Chris Bryan 
Assistant Coach

This will be Coach Bryan's 17th year at Dothan High School where he coaches baseball and football. He is a 1990 graduate of Dothan High School and a 1996 graduate of Troy State University. He is married to Branda Dobson Bryan, and they have two sons; Jon Christopher - 11 and Will - 6.
